Decluttering Your Workspace Of Things and People

Decluttering Your Workspace Of Things and People

You come into work to find an unwashed, empty coffee mug, along with crumpled papers everywhere.

Great.

It’s Monday morning and you already have a headache. What a wonderful way to start work. You then open your inbox, only to find a dozen emails from your boss, highlighting all the issues you’ve been having with your performance lately.

Just brilliant.

We’ve all been there before. We’ve all had our ups and downs at work. And while sometimes the stress is overwhelming to the point where we want to quit, remember that there isn’t a problem in the world without a solution.

Sometimes you need to declutter your workspace and maybe stay away from certain people to get back on track. And if you’re looking for ways to do just that, we’ve got you covered.

Digitalize Whatever You Can

Do you really need to use those sticky notes to list down daily tasks? Do you really need that notebook to jot down ideas or notes from a meeting?

There are plenty of apps that allow you to keep track of your daily tasks. You can also use your Gmail to remind you of important tasks and meetings.

Every time you have an idea that you want to use in the future, write it down in a Word document. You can email it to yourself and even create a cloud backup of important documents. This way, your desk won’t be cluttered and you won’t stress over losing anything important.

Figure Out What You Actually Use

You have a basket full of mini notepads and a stationery holder full of markers, pens, and pencils. But the million dollar question is: do you really use them or do you just love stationery?

Sit down during lunch break and figure out what you use and what you don’t need. For the things you don’t need, donate them or give them to a coworker. Remember that sometimes we feel like we need something but we don’t.

Clearing your desk will also give you plenty of breathing space and will help you clear your mind as well. Rearrange your desk if you have to. Try moving things around and changing the “layout” of your workspace.

See what works best for you.

Avoiding Toxic Coworkers

Unfortunately, there isn’t a surefire way to avoid toxic coworkers. But one of the best things you can do is stop paying attention. Cut your breaks shorter and see if you can eat at your desk.

If that isn’t an option, try stocking up on snacks that you can eat when you need a quick energy boost.

Switching Jobs Instead

If your workplace is toxic and you often find yourself burnt out, it’s a sign that you need to switch jobs.
